All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness 2 Timothy 3:16, KJV

Our church held a men’s retreat this past weekend during which we were challenged in holiness, leadership, and in grounding ourselves in the Scriptures. Using this text, our final speaker lay it out simply:

  • Doctrine
    • What is right: right belief, right thinking, right behavior, etc.
  • Reproof
    • What is wrong. Scripture is to be used to show us our wrong belief, thinking, behavior, etc.
  • Correction
    • Scripture is to be used to show us how to make what we had wrong, right.
  • Instruction
    • Scripture is also to be used to help us stay right; remain on the narrow path.

Brothers, dig into the word of God setting for yourselves a strong foundation so you can witstand the many storms of life.

*The NLT translates “profitable” to useful (used in the title of the post).

*The KJV is used above in honor of the 400th Anniversary of the publication of the King James Bible
